Businesses planning to enter the SCCUL Enterprise awards are being urged to submit their entries as soon as possible. The deadline for entries to the innovative awards programme which celebrates entrepreneurship and rewards local enterprise is 5.30pm tomorrow Friday November 6.

Monday evening’s budget meeting at City Hall is sure to be fraught with tension as city CEO Brendan McGrath attempts to pass what he has described as a ‘very, very difficult budget to balance’. 

A city councillor voiced his criticism of officials handling of public funds at this week’s local authority meeting. The comments came from Councillor Padraig Conneelly regarding procurement issues which were highlighted in a Local Government audit report.

With just two weeks until its annual budget meeting, Galway City Council has been criticised for its delay in releasing funding to AMACH!, the local organisation representing the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, which is seeking to open a resource centre. There is also ongoing controversy about the provision of funding to MADRA - the charity aiming to reduce the rate of dog euthanasia in the city.

Local dog rescue charity MADRA has issued a call to Galway City Council to provide them with the wherewithal to reduce Galway city’s unacceptably high dog euthanasia rate. 

An attempt to revive support for a light rail system for Galway will come before the next Galway City Council meeting, with a demand for a delegation from City Hall to visit towns in France to observe how light rail is operating there.
